Professor Norma Harrison

Webinar 1, 20 May 2020: The Perfect Storm: Understanding the Underlying Reasons for the COVID-19 Supply Crisis

In this first webinar, we heard from Supply Chain and Operations leaders from Kimberley Clark, Coles Victoria and Michigan State University about what firms were doing to mitigate disruptions in their supply chains. If we are to avoid the repeat of such a supply catastrophe, then a different approach is needed — an approach which addresses simultaneously issues involving the supply chain, information, government, consumers, and information management.

Speakers

  • Simon Rowe, Supply Chain Transformation & Operations Leader, Kimberly-Clark
  • Rory McDonald, Head of Store Operations, Coles Victoria
  • Steve Melnyk, Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management, Michigan State University, USA

Webinar 2, 27 May 2020: Weathering the Storm: Strategies for Surviving and Thriving in Turbulent and Uncertain Times

In this second webinar, presenters from Cochlear Limited, BaptistCare NSW & ACT, and Australasian Supply Chain Institute (ASCI) spoke about companies, large and small, surviving the current supply crisis by initiatives like maintaining frequent contact with critical supply chain partners, evaluating the resilience of organisations’ digital systems, and maintaining frequent communication within the supply chain. Short-term and long-term strategies for survival were discussed.

Speakers

  • Greg Bodkin, SVP Supply Chain & Operational Excellence, Cochlear Limited
  • Meighan Heard, General Manager, Governance and Legal, BaptistCare NSW & ACT
  • James Scotland, Queensland Chapter President, Australasian Supply Chain Institute (ASCI)

Webinar 3, 3 June 2020: A COVID-19 Post-Mortem — Lessons Learned and Moving Forward

Join the Supply Chain Leaders from Bain & Co., Port of Newcastle and Michigan State University in our third webinar. What is the face of business going to be like when we come out of the Coronavirus pandemic? How are supply chains going to need to change strategically and position themselves for the next event, whether it is weather related, another pandemic or another financial event like 2008? This presentation explored these developments and identified their implications for supply chain management.

Speakers

  • Craig Carmody, CEO, Port of Newcastle
  • Olaf Schatteman, Partner, Bain & Co.
  • Professor Steve Melnyk, Michigan State University
