Research degree supportThe Faculty of Arts offers research degrees across arts, humanities, law, education and social sciences. As a higher degree research candidate with us, you will have the opportunity to make an important contribution to the development of new knowledge.
You will be guided by world-leading researchers who have made ground-breaking discoveries that have informed debate about national and global challenges. You will also have access to outstanding facilities and support, and opportunities for international experiences to help you pursue your interests and achieve your academic and career goals.
Each research degree is unique and involves working closely with at least two academic supervisors to conduct detailed research into a specific topic over three years full time for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or two years full time for a Master of Philosophy (MPhil). As well as carrying out research and writing your thesis, you will attend seminars, domestic or international conferences, and skills training workshops appropriate to your needs. Many of our candidates also publish articles during their research program and gain experience in tutoring.
The Master of Research is an intensive research preparation program that will make you competitive in achieving your future career aspirations as either an academic or professional researcher. An internationally recognised research training degree, the Master of Research prepares you to complete a Doctor of Philosophy in three years.
