International Women’s Day 2024
International Women’s Day 2024 at AIHI
More than 60 people attended the annual Australian Institute of Health Innovation’s International Women’s Day event on Tuesday 12 March, where the theme, Count Her In: Accelerating gender equality through economic empowerment, was under the spotlight.
The event was hosted by AIHI health economist and senior research fellow, Dr Anam Bilgrami, with University of Sydney economics professor, Stefanie Schurer, attending as the guest speaker.
Professor Schurer is an internationally recognised expert in the field of human economic development and spoke about creating pathways to greater economic inclusion for women and girls everywhere. The talk was titled ‘50 Shades of Paternalism in public policy, how it affects us and how we should think about it.’
To open the event, Dr Bilgrami said, “International Women’s Day allows us to reflect on and review the progress women have made in their struggle for peace, equality and development. It also provides us with an opportunity to unite, network and mobilise to address existing barriers and create meaningful change.”
The successful event, which also included a quiz on gender equity, was coordinated by the AIHI IWD committee, chaired by senior research fellow Dr Elizabeth Austin.
