Ethics in organ transplantation

Calls for investigation from academics

Researchers have called for papers reporting on Chinese transplant recipients to be retracted pending investigation of their compliance with ethical standards.

Researchers including Dr Robyn Clay-Williams of AIHI found that 99% of papers in the study, that reported on a total of 85 477 transplants, failed to report whether organ donors gave consent for transplantation.

In BMJ Open, researchers called for papers published in peer-reviewed journals that did not properly identify the source of transplants to be retracted pending investigation of individual papers.
