AI workforce survey
Open now for health-related educators
The Australian Alliance for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare and The University of Melbourne are seeking to capture expert ideas and plans for educating the Australian health workforce about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in health systems and services.
Please participate in the survey if you are eligible, and pass on this invitation to others. The SURVEY is open now and closes 30 November 2020.
Who should complete this survey?
You are eligible to complete this survey if you hold an education-related position such as manager, coordinator, director or committee chair (paid or voluntary) in any of the following kinds of health-related organisations:
- Education and training provider within the scope of the Australian National Training System (e.g. health and IT schools within universities and other registered training organisations)
- Education and training provider not within the scope of the Australian National Training System (e.g. profession and industry training providers not included in the above)
- National Board that register practitioners and students and accredits education programs within the scope of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (e.g. Medical Board of Australian and all other health profession boards listed and their delegated authorities, e.g. Australian Medical Council, Optometry Council of ANZ, etc.)

View the Delegated Authorities. - Organisation that certifies individuals’ competencies or accredits education providers not within the scope of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (e.g. Australasian College of Health Service Management, Health Information Management Association of Australia, etc.)
- Organisation registered as a Healthcare Provider Identifier-Organisation (HPI-O) with the Australian Department of Health (e.g. hospitals, private clinics, primary care providers and others, as explained by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
- Organisation that delivers healthcare services not identified as a Healthcare Provider Identifier-Organisation (HPI-O) by the Australian Department of Health (e.g. residential aged care providers, primary health networks)
- Independent medical research institute given Administering Institution with AI status by the National Health and Medical Research Council.
- Health professional association within the Australian Bureau of Statistics definition of Professionals (e.g. Australasian Health and Research Data Managers Association).
- Health industry association (e.g. Medical Software Industry Association).
- Allied health professions within Allied Health Professions Australia.
Definitions
- Education includes formal study for entry into the workforce; continuing professional development to maintain currency; post-basic training leading to specialist status; and preparation for examination to certify competence to practice.
- The health workforce includes registered health practitioners as well as other health professionals, health researchers and health administration and support workers.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): The research project uses a broad definition of artificial intelligence that includes machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision and chatbots.
About the survey and project
The findings will inform strategic workforce and education planning by members of the Australian Alliance for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare. A free summary of the findings will be available in early 2021 on the Alliance website for open public access. This research project has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of The University of Melbourne, ethics ID number 2056392.1.
