VISOR research group

VISOR (Virtual and Interactive Simulations of Reality) is a multi departmental research group that belongs to the Department of Computing, in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Macquarie University, Sydney.

Our main focus is Human Computer Interaction, particularly the design and development of ubiquitous interfaces using virtual reality, computer graphics, computer games, and interactive storytelling.

We distinguish ourselves with the use of signal processing methods rather than image processing for motion tracking in interface and simulation design, as it is well aligned with human information processing.

Primarily we conduct applied and empirical research on human information processing and signal processing. The main application area for the interfaces we develop is training simulations.

Our mission:

Excellence can be obtained if you:

  • Care more than others think is wise
  • Risk more than others think is safe
  • Dream more than others think is practical
  • Expect more than others think is possible.

Associate Professor Manolya Kavakli is the Head of VISOR research group and Director of the Virtual Reality Lab located at the Simulation Hub, which is a valuable asset to Macquarie University. The group has strong links with CEPET (Centre for Elite Performance, Expertise, and Training) research group, located at the Department of Pyschology.

"Department of Computing... We can make you travel in time and space! Set your watch forward 20 years as we design interfaces for future!"
