Liz is an esteemed researcher in the space of Indigenous cultural heritage. She was one of our 2021 ECR Indigenous Australian Research Fellows. During her fellowship, Liz undertook a creative visual documentation of Indigenous Australian artefacts held in the Macquarie University Art Gallery to rediscover and analyse Indigenous art-making traditions. Her article “'Reclaiming their stories': A study of the spiritual content of historical cultural objects through an Indigenous creative inquiry” in Australian Archaeology (RAAA) is based on work funded by her CACHE fellowship and available NOW! Congratulations Liz!

The paper aims to bridge the gap between arts and science by incorporating Indigenous principles, knowledge, techniques, and ethics within archaeology. The research focused on investigating Australian Indigenous cultural objects from ‘The Pacific Island Collection’ donated to the Macquarie University Museum by Sheila Macdonald.

For more information about Liz’s research, recent publications, and art, see her Academic profile, Academia page and website Belanjee.
