Congratulations to our 2020 Visiting Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Dr Emlyn Dodd, for the publication of his article “Pompeii is famous for its ruins and bodies, but what about its wine?" in The Conversation on 5th November 2020.

The article explores evidence for wine-making preserved at the ancient Roman city of Pompeii after its destruction by volcanic eruption in 79 CE. This research follows Emlyn’s role as field survey leader with the British School at Rome excavations in Pompeii from 2015–2016, and is part of his broader investigation into the archaeological evidence for viticulture and oleiculture across the ancient Mediterranean.

Emlyn contributed this article while undertaking his CACHE fellowship, examining wine and oil production of the Roman and Late Antique Cyclades.

We look forward to seeing further contributions to The Conversation by Emlyn on ancient wine and oil production in the near future!
