CACHE offered a weekly 1-hour Akkadian Language Seminar that aimed to introduce the lingua franca of the Ancient Near East during Session 2, 2022. Students learn to master the grammar of Akkadian, including phonology, morphology, syntax and the numerical system. Next to the linguistic aspects of Akkadian, students engaged in intensive cuneiform script training allowing them to read basic texts by the end of the second semester, 2022.

The seminar was facilitated by Dr Elynn Gorris (visiting Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow) under the direction of CACHE member Prof. Javier Alvarez-Mon. Classes were free to motivated Macquarie University students and staff of all academic levels. The seminar was held on campus, during the academic teaching session (excluding recess). All resources were provided digitally. We would like to congratulate Dr Gorris and the seminar participants for a successful offering of Akkadian! Dr Gorris’ classes were well attended by students from undergraduate, masters and PhD levels, with a few ECRs in attendance too!
