Dr Vincent Ng gave a talk on "Frequency generation and soliton formation in MgF₂ whispering-gallery-mode micro-resonators" for our MQ photonics seminar series.  He provided a comprehensive explanation of the theory and experiments that he and his colleagues have been doing on the dynamics and generation of frequency combs using micro-resonators, addressing 3 questions:  can the devices be made smaller and cheaper, with the extended frequency range and with mutual coherence for dual frequency combs?  This micro-resonator system provides a rich set of possible operating conditions to challenge and intrigue both theorists and experimentalists!  It is terrific to hear about the research of our alumni!
