Dr Noushin Nasiri of the Macquarie School of Engineering gave a fascinating seminar to MQ Photonics. She creates nanoparticle porous films with semiconductor properties which have useful applications as photodetectors, UV sensors or for gas sensing. There is intriguing physics in how the nanoparticles form into a porous networked film via flame spray pyrolysis, and how they respond to light and to gases; we look forward to hearing from her as this technology finds yet more applications!
