Dr Matt Majewski presented his work on "Dysprosium lasers: Expanding mid-infrared fibre technology" in our MQ Photonics seminar series yesterday.
He gave a nice overview of the field of mid IR fibre lasers, and highlighted some intriguing features of the Dy laser scheme, with energy transfer from Tm to Dy in the fibre medium. He implemented effective technology solutions to the challenge of water absorption by using fibre Bragg gratings and described some relevant applications of these innovative laser sources. An interesting and comprehensive seminar on an important topic!
