What implementation Science can offer patient safety
Professor Jeremy Grimshaw visit
Professor Jeremy Grimshaw, renowned implementation science expert, provided the keynote in a workshop at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI) on 14 March 2023 at the invitation of AIHI Founding Director Professor Jeffrey Braithwaite.
Professor Grimshaw is a Senior Scientist in the Clinical Epidemiology Program, Ottawa Health Research Institute and a Full Professor in the Department of Medicine, University of Ottawa. Professor Grimshaw is internationally recognised for conducting seminal, original work in implementation science and has been cited almost 300,000 times. He was named by Reuters as one of the most influential scientific minds of our time, and recently attended the Fifth World Health Organization (WHO) Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety in Montreux, Switzerland, with AIHI’s Professor Braithwaite and Professor Johanna Westbrook.

The workshop 'Implementation Science, Learning Health Systems and Patient Safety: At the intersections of a better health system' also featured discussions of research by AIHI researchers:
- Professor Farah Magrabi is a Professor of Biomedical and Health Informatics and leads AIHI’s AI Systems Safety Research Stream.
- Associate Professor Peter Hibbert co-leads the Appropriateness of Care and Patient Safety Research Stream in AIHI and is program director for the CareTrack Aged project to improve quality and safety in residential aged care.
- Dr Janet Long is a Research Fellow at AIHI and a member of the Complex Systems and Implementation Science Research Stream, using a complexity lens to approach issues of quality and safety in the delivery of healthcare.
- Professor Yvonne Zurynski is Professor of Health System Sustainability, and leads the activities of the Coordinating Centre of the NHMRC Partnership Centre in Health Systems Sustainability.
