Over the counter contraceptive pill, a real option
Improved care and health dollar savings
New research from Macquarie University shows that reclassifying contraceptive medication to an over the counter pharmacy product could save lives and reduce costs to the health system.
Dr Virginia Mumford, Research Fellow at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Macquarie University, co-authored the paper which was published in PharmacoEconomics.
The Conversation also published an article on this research.
Dr Mumford and colleagues used economic modelling to assess the benefit of moving to a pharmacist-only classification for oral contraceptives.
