Macquarie University academic elected to the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences

The outstanding contribution to the field of health services research by Professor Johanna Westbrook has been recognised with the awarding of a Fellowship to the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS) last night.
Professor Westbrook is internationally recognised for her research evaluating the effects of information and communication technology in healthcare and is the Director of the Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Macquarie University.
Professor Westbrook identifies information technology as a game changer for reducing medication errors in hospitals, which costs Australia more than $1.3 billion annually, as well as making aged care safer.
AAHMS Fellows are elected by their peers based on their exceptional contributions to the fields of health and medical science.
Professor Westbrook thanked colleagues and her team at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation for their support and dedication to investigating how health systems and technology can be better designed and used to create safe, effective and sustainable healthcare.
“Our highly applied research supports the design of effective policies and practices as well as informs system design changes,” said Professor Westbrook.
