Dr Yvonne Tran visits Taiwan for quality and accreditation talks

Joint Commission of Taiwan welcomes AIHI

The Joint Commission of Taiwan (JCT) invited the Australian Institute of Health Innovation to explore opportunities for joint research projects and attend meetings in Taipei during February 2019.

The JCT was established 20 years ago and is dedicated to accreditation and certification of hospitals throughout Taiwan with a focus on quality improvement and patient safety. They are members of the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua).

Dr Yvonne Tran from AIHI visited JCT to become familiar with the Taiwanese accreditation system and their large datasets, and to meet with the various teams at JCT.

Dr Tran was introduced to six of the major JCT projects including: examining disease specific (AMI, stroke) certification with Taiwanese clinical performance indicators, pay for performance in accreditation, patient safety culture, surveyor performance, and the impact of hospital accreditation.

Dr Tran said, “The discussions were very productive and we have been continuing our talks and are now working toward producing quality outcomes from this collaboration.”

Dr Tran is a researcher with the Centre for Healthcare Resilience and Implementation Science at AIHI and works with the NHMRC funded Centre for Implementation Science in Oncology.
