2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health Awards

Professor Johanna Westbrook awarded

Professor Johanna Westbrook was announced as one of the 2022 Telstra Brilliant Women in Digital Health at a ceremony on 13 October 2022.

Professor Westbrook, Director of the Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, was recognised for her outstanding achievements and contributions in digital health.

Professor Westbrook is known for her research on the effectiveness and safety of clinical IT systems in hospitals and in aged care. She has recently built on her ground-breaking work on the effects of electronic medical management systems (eMM) in adult hospitals with the completion of the largest and most comprehensive study of eMM in paediatric hospitals. In addition, recent work in aged care has driven changes in provider IT systems and highlighted the potential of informatics to monitor and improve care.

In congratulating the award recipients, Telstra Health Managing Director, Elizabeth Koff AM, said these women highlight the rewarding careers on offer in digital health for talented and dedicated professionals.

“These awards are important in recognising the many and varied contributions that it takes to deliver health technologies. I hope to raise the profile of the role rigorous research plays in supporting evidence-based approaches to the design, implementation, optimisation and evaluation of health informatics interventions,” said Professor Westbrook.
