Celebratin International Mother Language Day!!!

Our group is a testament to the fact that diversity truly is the spice of life. We come from all corners of the world, with different heritages, cultures, and languages. At first glance, we might seem like we have very little in common, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

One of the things that makes our group so special is the way we embrace and celebrate our differences. Instead of trying to hide or ignore them, we actively seek out opportunities to learn from each other. Whether we're discussing our favorite foods, traditions, or beliefs, we approach every conversation with an open mind and a genuine desire to understand.

Of course, it's not just our differences that bring us together. We also share a deep passion for knowledge and a commitment to personal growth. From the latest research in science and technology to the timeless wisdom of our ancestors, we are constantly seeking out new ideas and perspectives to help us become the best versions of ourselves.

And that's where the real magic happens. By sharing our knowledge and perspectives with each other, we are able to enrich each other's lives in ways that we never could have imagined. We challenge each other to think critically, to question our assumptions, and to consider new possibilities. And as a result, we all come away from every interaction a little wiser, a little more enlightened, and a little more connected to the world around us.

Laura recieved Alex Young Lions scholarship!

The Alex Young Lions scholarship is awarded to commemorate Alexander Steele Young, who sadly lost his life to Haemophilia in 1970 and whose memory lives on in the research performed in his name thanks to the efforts of his brother Ian Young and the Alexander Steele Young Memorial Lions Foundation. This scholarship works to support PhD students whose work is relevant to evaluation of practice and outcomes of transfusion in Australia, thus aiding in the pursuit to improve care and outcomes of transfusion related illnesses that affect patients such as Alexander.

Monitoring for early signs of treatment resistance in breast cancer

Interveiw with Associate Professor Yuling Wang, Macquarie University about chellenging project.

In this project, Associate Professor Wang is aiming to help women with metastatic ER+ breast cancer live longer.

Currently, once ER+ breast cancer has become metastatic and spread, there is no curative treatment available. A new class of drugs – called CDK4/6 inhibitors – have improved survival rates by several months. But this treatment eventually fails, as tumours develop a resistance.

A/Prof Wang and her team want to develop a test that can detect the earliest signs of metastatic ER+ breast cancer tumours developing resistance to these drugs.

If successful, this will enable doctors to offer alternative treatment approaches – such as enrolment in new clinical trials – before the cancer progresses further.
