CACHE is delighted to welcome new members, Dr Matthew Kosnik and Dr Shaina Russell, who will be joining us from the Macquarie University School of Natural Sciences.

Dr Matthew Kosnik is a conservation palaeobiologist, a taphonomist, and a malacologist based in the School of Natural Sciences. He uses sedimentary records, and the shells preserved in them, to provide a historical context to modern marine ecosystems and our impact on them. Through his research he seeks to understand the preservation of biological remains in sedimentary records and the idiosyncrasies of palaeontological assemblages.

Dr Shaina Russell is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Natural Sciences. She is a cross-cultural ecologist, and her current research is with the Yirralka Rangers of the Laynhapuy Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) on the ARCLP21 Warrakan’puy Djäma project. Dr Russell is exploring new methods for remotely assessing biocultural fauna diversity using camera traps and eDNA across the vast Laynhapuy IPA in north east Arnhem Land.

We look forward to following along Matthew and Shaina’s careers and welcome them to the CACHE community. You can view the full list of our Centre Membership on our website.
