Random lasing is a useful platform for fundamental understanding of coherent phenomena in disordered media.

Random lasing is a useful platform for fundamental understanding of coherent phenomena in disordered media. Simple fabrication and design with different materials and geometries makes random lasers appealing for sensing and biomarking applications. This seminar concerns the random lasing properties of zinc oxide nanorods prepared by chemical bath deposition. Observation of stable emission, mode competition, gain-pinning behaviour, and the effect of crystallisation and doping with metal particles on threshold behaviour are also discussed.

Bio: Dr Wan Maryam Wan Ahmad Kamil is a senior lecturer from Universiti Sains Malaysia upon completion of her PhD in July 2013 at Nottingham University (UK) and is currently a visiting scholar at Australian National University (ANU). Prior to this she obtained the University of Southampton travel award under ESPRC in 2018 (3 weeks) and was a visiting scholar to King Abdullah University of Technology (KAUST) in 2017 (2 weeks). She was also recently nominated to attend the Nobel Laureates Meeting in Lindau, Germany (2019).
