Macquarie University Philanthropy Club students raised $720 with their Paint for Purpose event at the Ubar, with all proceeds going towards MindSpot.

Paint for Purpose, which was becoming a popular event for the university community before the pandemic, is back! It allows participants to learn simple painting techniques in a hands-on workshop at the U-bar on Campus.

The two-hour workshop was led by Macquarie University artist in residence Joe Lander on Friday 13th May.  The workshop was designed for both the “hidden Picassos” and the “non-arty people among us”, according to MUPC president Zane Sharma (pictured left with club treasurer Harrison Knights).

With all painting supplies provided, and a special offer to participants on pizza and wine at the U-bar, it was a fun and productive evening.   Participants learnt a technique to quickly sketch the person sitting opposite them, using one continuous line and without looking down at the page.  They then reproduced the sketch and were encouraged to use bold and contrasting colours to complete the painting in watercolour.

The Macquarie University Philanthropy Club (MUPC) is happy to be able to return to hosting fundraising activities on campus.  All proceeds from the evening went toward MindSpot
