Our affiliated programs

Enabling curriculum-aligned educational opportunities for school students.

We are collaborating with educators at Macquarie and the wider community to provide learning opportunities for young minds. This helps enhance their academic confidence, interaction and engagement with learning while raising awareness of potential future learning pathways.

LEAP Express

LEAP Express is a literacy-based workshop series encouraging students to explore literacy skills through different creative lenses. The initiative aims to enhance student language confidence and written expression in line with stage-appropriate learning outcomes.

LEAP Express has been co-designed by Widening Participation and Macquarie School of Education.

LEAP Gazette

The LEAP Gazette program is a excursion experience for years 5-7 classes to Macquarie University. The program encourages students to find their journalistic voices by exploring and observing the Macquarie University campus. LEAP Gazette, hosted at MQ’s Wallumattagal campus in North Ryde, promotes the development of children’s creativity, helps them explore the endless possibilities of their imaginations, and draws upon foundational literacy skills in a fun and meaningful way.

LEAP Gazette engages students over a full day, with individual and group tasks involving writing, interviews, photography, and editing; all working toward the creation of students’ very own newspaper!

LEAP Imagine That!

LEAP Imagine That! is a research-informed initiative co-designed by Widening Participation and Associate Professor Penny Van Bergen.

An interactive play-based initiative aimed at raising student awareness of the possibility of imagined futures and introducing the benefits of higher education as a potential learning pathway.

Sydney Science Trail

Delivered by Macquarie’s collaborative partners at the Australian Museum and The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney as part of National Science Week celebrations.

Sydney Science Trail engages LEAP School partners and students in an extensive array of interactive online STEM based activities.
