December

• Professor Christina Slade is resigning from Macquarie University to take up an appointment as Conjoint Dean of Arts and Social Sciences at London City University. She will now serve as an Honorary Associate of the Centre.

November

• Deputy Director, A/Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington, has been presented with the 2008 Prime Minister's University Teacher of the Year award ($50,000) at a ceremony at Parliament House, Canberra.

• Deputy Director, A/Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington, will be presented with a 2008 Australian Award for University Teaching ($25, 000) at a ceremony at Parliament House, Canberra.

October

• Professor Murray Goot has been awarded an ARC Australian Professorial Fellowship and Discovery Grant for 'Remaking Australian Politics: Electrioneering from the 19th Century to the 21st'.

September

• Tom Murray's film, In My Father's Country, made as part of his PhD at Macquarie University (supervised by Kathryn Millard, Michelle Arrow and Marnie Hughes-Warrington), has won the Australian Directors Guild award for Best Direction in a Documentary Feature.

• Dr Michelle Arrow has accepted an invitation to join the Advisory Board for the Prime Minister's History Prize.

July

• A trailer for The Boot Cake, a new film by Associate Member and award-winning filmmaker Kathryn Millard, is now available.
• Director Bridget Griffen-Foley was interviewed by filmmaker Brendan Young for You Only Live Twice, about four generations of the Hughes family.
• Margaret Van Heekeren's article, 'Pioneer or pretender? The contradictory life of Australasian printer and publisher Benjamin Isaacs', appears in this month's issue of Australian Journalism Review (vol. 30, no. 1).

June

• Director Bridget Griffen-Foley has accepted an invitation to join the Editorial Board of the international journal, Media History.
• Associate Member Kyle Harvey has been awarded a Visiting Researcher Stipend (US$2,000) to conduct archival research at UCLA's Film and Television Archive for his doctoral research on 'Media Reception and Nuclear Politics in 1980s America'.

May

• Members of the Centre for Media History are playing an active role in one of the new Concentrations of Research Excellence that has been established at Macquarie University. Three new positions are available to the Social, Cultural and Political Change team, including in the area of Media and the State. We are seeking researchers with empirical and /or theoretical expertise in the history of the media, media technologies or organisations of communication, within national, international and/or comparative contexts. Scholars whose interests encompass any area of the media - the press, radio, television, or film - be it content, audiences or regulation; any aspect of political communication and public opinion; or any of the new media, are encouraged to apply.

• The Centre has been award $20 561 under the Macquarie University Strategic Infrastructure Scheme for A Media Reception Database and Facility for the collection, management, and collaborative analysis of oral data.
