In 2017, a team of faculty researchers (Sheila Degotardi, Mridula Sharma, Naomi Sweller, Emilia Djonov and Sandra Cheeseman) were awarded one of the largest ARC Discovery grants to investigate the implications of infants' language environment for their subsequent language development. In this presentation, we 'tell the story' of this grant, detailing the research that instigated the project and identifying how gaps in this research were addressed in the project design. We will also overview the successes and challenges of the project so far, thereby presenting opportunities to discuss the 'real world' day-to-day decision making and organisation that accompanies a project of this scale.
