Topic: Speech and language development in children with hearing impairment: 0-12 years of age

Abstract
This presentation will outline three different research projects on children with hearing impairment spanning 0 to 12 years of age.  The first project focuses on children with bilateral moderate sensorineural hearing loss and unilateral conductive hearing loss from 0-3 years of age.  The second project includes school-aged children with hearing loss and different types of hearing screening protocols and compares the results.  The final project examines the language and quality of life in older school-aged children with mild to moderate sensorineural hearing loss.

Bio
Traci Flynn is a Senior Lecturer in Speech Pathology at the University of Newcastle.  She recently moved to Australia from Sweden where she completed her PhD at the University of Gothenburg in 2013.  Following her PhD studies, she worked at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm.  Before Traci began her PhD she worked within industry at Widex A/S and Oticon A/S on the research and development of hearing aids and clinically in the USA and UK on cochlear implant programmes as a (re)habilitationist.
