Welcome to Macquarie’s Geophysics and Geodynamics Group (MG3)!

MG3 is based in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Macquarie University. Our focus is on understanding the nature and evolution of our planet as well as other terrestrial planets and moons.

MG3 brings together a unique range of geophysical skills. In observational geophysics, we collect and analyse seismic, magnetotelluric and potential fields data. In inverse geophysics, we model these data holistically, using all available data to model the thermal and chemical structure of the Earth and the dynamic processes occurring within it.

MG3’s breadth of expertise allows us to tackle some of the most pressing questions in Earth science. Our current research questions include the controls on the initiation and development of plate tectonics, the thermal and compositional structure of the lithosphere, and the footprint of ore deposits from the surface to the mantle.
