Researcher Exchange & Development in Industry (REDI) Fellowship

Researcher Exchange & Development in Industry (REDI) Fellowship

StatusOPEN
Aim

The REDI Fellowship Program will foster greater collaboration between research and industry through Fellows spending time embedded in industry (Sponsor). The aim is for expansion of a Fellow’s skill sets and to bring these back to their place of ongoing employment, embedding high-level commercial and entrepreneurial experience in the research sector.

Applications are sought from Sponsors who have identified:

  • a Fellow;
  • a specific project with well-defined outcomes;
  • support from the Fellow’s employer; and
  • a set term for the industry Fellowship (maximum term is 12 months, although in exceptional circumstances up to 24 months will be considered).

The focus is to ensure that the Fellow has access to a solid network within the Sponsor to learn from and share experiences with. The REDI Fellowship Program is intended to accelerate relationships, drive projects towards commercial outcomes and provide industry relevant skills to the Fellow. Relationships are expected to be sustained beyond the Fellowship period with an expected ongoing collaboration. Fellows also need to identify how they will apply their newly acquired industry-based knowledge and skills to their research workplace when returning from the Sponsor.

Duration
There are three durations of REDIF offered:

  • 12 months full time;
  • 6-12 months full time; or
  • 6-12 months where the Fellow spends 50 per cent of time working with the Sponsor.

For exceptional circumstances REDIF of up to 24 months may be considered. Following the Fellowship, Fellows are expected to return to their Employer’s workplace for a period of time at least equal to the length of their Fellowship. This will ensure the implementation and dissemination of industry-based knowledge and skill. Fellows will need to continue to submit reports for a period of one year after the Fellowship.

Key Dates

Changes to Eligibility for DVCR Co-Funding

Eligibility for the DVCR Co-Funding Scheme is now contingent upon on-time submission of grant applications by the Macquarie University submission date.  Many applications for external funding require cash and in-kind contributions from the host institution in order to be considered for funding.  In most cases, researchers request cash contributions, such as project support funds, funding for research associates, scholarships and major equipment, from the DVCR via the DVCR Co-Funding Scheme  to support their external funding applications.  To be eligible to request this DVCR Co-Funding, grant applications must be submitted internally, via Pure, by the Macquarie University submission date.

  • Applications for major grant rounds (MRFF) must be submitted to the Research Services Pre Award team 4 weeks prior to the external deadline.
  • Applications that do not have a Pure record and/or do not have all the appropriate approvals in Pure (Head of Department [HoD] and Associate Dean Research [ADR]) will not be submitted to the external funding body.
  • For further information see FAQs.
