Alec Morgan and Tiriki Onus Australian Directors' Guild Awards 2022 for Ablaze

MCCALL Hon Associate Alec Morgan, together with co-director Tiriki Onus, received an award for Best Direction in a Documentary Feature from the Australian Directors' Guild for the film Ablaze.

Feature documentary Ablaze tells of the first Indigenous filmmaker Bill Onus a Yorta Yorta Wiradjuri man from Victoria. A truly heroic cultural and political figure who revived his people’s culture in the 1940s and ignited a civil rights movement that would, against enormous odds, change the course of history.  

Winner: Victorian Premier’s History Award. AWGIE Award for best documentary script. ATOM Awards for best Indigenous film and best documentary social and political issues. Shortlisted, Betty Roland Prize for Script, NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.
