The Library's interlibrary loan service is unable to supply physical items at present. We can provide digital journal articles and book chapters for staff and postgraduate students.
Make an interlibrary loan request
Check MultiSearch to see if the Library already holds the item required.
Log in and use the interlibrary loan link in MultiSearch.
Please allow 2 weeks for your request to be available.
Macquarie University and Macquarie University Hospital staff and postgraduate students are eligible to request interlibrary loans. Interlibrary loans are used if the Library does not hold a resource.
Loan periods vary according to the lending institution, ranging from 4 weeks to 8 weeks.
There is a separate service for registered Distance students.
About the service
Interlibrary loans (or document supply) can provide books, research reports and theses, as well as copies of journal articles, chapters from books or conference papers.
The service is free except for:
- 2 hour Express request - cost $56.10 (incl GST)
- 24 hour Rush request - cost $37.40 (incl GST)
Please contact the Library immediately after submitting an urgent request on 02 9850 7891 (Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm).
Some items can be expensive to obtain and we may ask you to contribute to the cost before proceeding.
Using the service
You will receive an email when the item is available to collect from the Collection Point, on level 2 of the Library. Chapters and articles will be sent to you as an email attachment.
All loans must be returned to Macquarie University Library.
If you wish to renew an interlibrary loan, please email email@example.com at least 3 working days before the item is due and we will contact the lending institution to request a renewal.
Please note some lending institutions do not permit renewals of their items.
Interlibrary Loans for other Libraries
We are currently only able to supply digital requests to other libraries.
We supply loans and copies of material to Australian and overseas libraries in accordance with the Australian Copyright Act (1968) and its amendments. Our policies are found in the ILRS directory – search for ‘NMQU’.
We normally supply requests placed through Libraries Australia Document Delivery (LADD) and OCLC Worldshare.
For assistance, call (02) 9850 7514 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Place requests using LADD or contact us (as above).
Payment using the Libraries Australia payment system is preferred. Payment by credit card or EFT will be accepted.
Place requests using OCLC Worldshare or contact us (as above).
Loans cost (including airmail delivery) either AUD $20.00 or 2 full IFLA vouchers.
Copies cost either AUD $10.00 or 1 full IFLA voucher.
Payment may be made with IFLA vouchers or credit card.
Macquarie Theses are not for loan. Libraries can purchase a copy. The cost (including postage if required) is:
- AUD $110 for Australian libraries
- AUD $100 for New Zealand libraries
- AUD $130 for other international libraries
Requests should be placed through LADD or OCLC Worldshare. Alternatively, if this is not possible, an email request can be placed via email@example.com
An electronic copy will be made available, with the author's permission, or an unbound copy will be posted to you. Please note this service takes 4-6 weeks excluding delivery time.
Under the provisions of the Copyright Act, 1968, as amended, we are limited to sending only one chapter or 10% of a book. Journals are less restricted, allowing us to send multiple articles from single journal issues. Supply of items not held by the Library must be for teaching and/or research purposes.
