About us

Behavioural Science Lab

The Behavioural Science Laboratory aims to discover what factors and processes contribute to the aetiology and maintenance of anxiety and substance use problems. While behavioural and cognitive-behavioural treatments are effective at reducing these individual conditions, relapse often occurs. In addition, many people do not take up these treatments and when they do, they often fail to adhere to treatment recommendations. Our goal is to improve treatment outcomes and to enhance treatment acceptability, accessibility, and adherence.

The Behavioural Science Laboratory addresses these aims in two ways. First, we use human laboratory-based models, often translated from animal models, to acquire knowledge about the underlying mechanisms of these conditions. Then, we use this knowledge to inform treatment.
