Biography

Grad Dip Clin Pharm, University of Sydney; BPharm, University of Sydney

Alison Merchant joined the Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research in 2020 as a research officer. Alison completed her pharmacy degree and post graduate qualifications in clinical pharmacy at Sydney University, and has enjoyed practicing as a pharmacist for several years in a variety of settings. Her most recent clinical role was as Senior Pharmacist in Cystic Fibrosis with the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Westmead Hospital. Her previous experience also includes Medicines Information Pharmacist, eMM Project Pharmacist and Terminology Analyst at National eHealth Transition Authority. Her current area of research with CHSSR is related to medication safety and prescribing errors. Alison's other areas of research interest are medicines use in cystic fibrosis, novel routes for administration of medications, impact of long-term medication use, and access to personalised medicines. She is also interested in the impact of organisational change on the use of medicines.
