Foster success with Indigenous programs

Education is a powerful instrument of change for Indigenous people, families and communities. Walanga Muru –the Office of Indigenous Strategy is committed to fostering success for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Our Indigenous Recruitment and Outreach Strategy involves developing partnerships with schools, communities and organisations to unlock the potential in our Indigenous communities.

Key programs within our Indigenous Recruitment and Outreach Strategy include:

Ngamuru: To See the Way school program

The Ngamuru program is a longitudinal school and student engagement program for students in Year 7 to Year 12. The program focuses on developing the essential life skills of students, such as resiliency and strong self-concept, through engagement with the educational experience and ongoing school-based interactions.

Birruga Birrung: Rising Stars program

The Birruga Birrung program is an innovative program designed to recognise the hidden potential in our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Through access to ongoing mentoring, leadership development and resiliency training, this program aims to develop the Indigenous leaders of tomorrow and to nurture the knowledge, strengths and capacity within our communities.
