Sociology at Macquarie
Sociology at Macquarie has earned a strong reputation for its research and teaching programs. Our undergraduate program covers exciting areas that include: contemporary Australian society, popular culture, the sociology of media, the sociology of work and social policy, the place of intimacy in social life, social movements and social theory.
Sociology hosts the Interdisciplinary Women's Studies, Gender and Sexuality program
Students are encouraged to pursue their interests and develop their skills via six distinct pathways:

- Culture and Everyday Life
- Policy and Public Life
- Economy and Society
- Sociology of Gender
- Crime, Justice and Law
Our postgraduate program provides students with additional opportunities to broaden their intellectual and professional horizons. The Department offers Masters level opportunities in social research and policy, and a thriving doctoral program.
The Department is made up of research-focused sociologists from diverse backgrounds who have a wide range of strengths in social theory, research methods and social research.
