Brill's Chinese-English Dictionary Online offers a comprehensive resource for classical and medieval Chinese. This new online resource presents a practical lexicon of 8,300 characters, covering the period between 500 B.C. and 1000 C.E. The Dictionary assists users in interpreting historical characters as used in classic and contemporary texts and settings. Users can easily search this resource by the 140 base radicals and the number of added strokes.

PatentPak is part of SciFinder, an indexing and abstracting service to journals, books, conferences, patents, dissertations and technical reports in all areas of chemistry, biomedicine, and many other scientific areas. PatentPak offers instant access to searchable full-text patents from major patent offices around the world. Patent family coverage is available in multiple languages. Contents are provided in interactive view with built-in SciFinder search functionality.

Access to PatentPak content is via SciFinder Web Version and a valid account is required.
To register for an account use your Macquarie University email address. You will then be sent an email with instructions for completing the registration process. After completing the registration, you can log in to SciFinder using the Access URL.

Thieme eOtoloaryngology - ON Trial

Thieme eOtolaryngology is an online database for otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. It provides access to Thieme's entire otolaryngology collection including ejournals and books. The site debuts with book content, step-by-step procedures, cases, procedural technique videos, and Thieme's eotolaryngology journals. Contents are searchable and high-quality images can be downloaded for presentations,and patient consultations. The procedures and videos could be used for surgical preparation.

L'année philologique (via EBSCOhost)

L'Année philologique, published by the Société Internationale de Bibliographie Classique, is a specialized bibliographic database of scholarly works relating to all aspects of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. Its subjects are Greek and Latin literature and linguistics, including early Christian texts and patristics, Greek and Roman history, art, archaeology, philosophy, religion, mythology, music, science, and scholarly subspecialties such as numismatics, papyrology and epigraphy. With over 810,000 records, L'Année philologique includes citations to journal articles and books, with abstracts in English, German, Spanish, French or Italian.

Pravda Digital Archive

Pravda (or "Truth") was the official voice of Soviet communism and the Central Committee of the Communist Party between 1918 and 1991. Founded in 1912 in St. Petersburg, Russia, Pravda originated as an underground, daily workers' newspaper, and soon became the main newspaper of the revolutionary wing of the Russian socialist movement. East View has created an online, digital and searchable archive of Pravda, from its inception in 1912 through the end of 2009. This searchable archive is full text and full image.

vLearn is Video Education Australasia (VEA)'s video streaming platform. This platform provides online access to streamed educational and training videos specifically aimed at the tertiary sector. Via vLearn, Macquarie University staff and students are able to access a selection of titles both on and off campus. Subject coverage varies depending on the titles for which Macquarie University Library currently holds a license. During this trial we have access to the Video Arts Essentials Collections and the Business Collection, both having videos aimed at the business sector.

Colonial State Papers

This growing collection offers insight into the colonial history of North America and the West Indies. It includes the National Archives collection CO 1-- papers that were presented to the Privy Council and the Board of Trade during 1574-1757. More than 7,000 hand-written documents and more than 45,000 bibliographic records give fascinating insight into British trade, history and overseas expansion between the 16th and 18th centuries.

Counseling and psychotherapy transcripts, volume II is an online resource for teaching and research featuring a diverse set of clients, a wide range of presenting issues, and multiple therapeutic approaches. It provides a deep look into the client-therapist office, allowing readers to follow the progress and setbacks of clients over the course of multiply therapy sessions. All Volume II content was recorded in 2012 or later which examines contemporary issues and the most up-to-date therapeutic approaches to treat them. The collection adheres to the American Psychological Association's Ethics Guidelines for use and anonymity.

Counseling and psychotherapy transcripts, client narratives, and reference works is a searchable collection containing real transcripts of counseling and therapy sessions and first-person narratives illuminating the experience of mental illness and treatment, as well as reference works to conceptualise the primary materials. The database contains more than 2,000 session transcripts, 44,000 pages of client narratives, and 25,000 pages of secondary reference materials. There are diaries, letters, autobiographies, oral histories, and personal memoirs along with the full text of therapy and counseling sessions themselves.

Westlaw UK

Westlaw UK is a legal database which provides access to selected full text case law, legislation and journal articles from the UK and EU. This database includes ICLR pdfs, other case law including Fleet Street Reports, UK Legislation dating back to 1267, and journals published by Sweet & Maxwell, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press and many others. It also includes Westlaw UK Insight which is an online legal encyclopaedia that provides comprehensive statement of the law in the United Kingdom.

ARTS:LIVE is a major national initiative aimed at achieving sustainable music and arts learning in school communities. Encompassing an award-winning interactive learning platform that promotes active collaboration between teachers and students across five Art Forms: Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts, ARTS:LIVE enables students and teachers to access in-depth, Australian Arts curriculum aligned, classroom-ready interactive learning from anywhere in Australia, regardless of their existing skills and knowledge. Already used in 50% of Australian schools, 3 major universities have now also subscribed. Academics at these universities are integrating ARTS:LIVE into their lectures, tutorials and research and pre-service teachers are finding it especially useful for school work placements and various other work-integrated learning experiences.

Visible Body is a 3D human anatomy visualization and learning tool which consists of highly detailed, anatomically accurate, 3-D models of all human body systems including anatomy, physiology, muscles, the skeleton and the circulatory system. It allows users to view in real time any combination of anatomical structures from any angle by zooming in, rotating, and making structures transparent or visible. It has dynamic search capability, easy-to-use 3D controls, and is compatible with most web browsers.

eHRAF Archaeology

eHRAF Archaeology is a cross-cultural database containing information on the world's prehistory designed to facilitate comparative archaeological studies. This annually-growing eHRAF database is organized by archaeological traditions. The full-text sources are subject-indexed at the paragraph level. Two thesauri, Outline of the world cultures (OWC), and: Outline of  cultural materials (OCM), organize the collections and are included as searchable files.

Browzine - Mobile Application

BrowZine is a publisher-neutral reading and discovery platform which can be accessed from your mobile devices. It is an iPad, iPhone and Android application which allows you to browse many of the Library's subscribed e-journal contents from your mobile devices. It provides a uniform way of reading, storing, citing and sharing articles. Its cross-application communication feature allows users to save PDF or citations to Dropbox, Zotero, Mendeley, RefWorks and other services. However, integration with EndNote is not yet available.

  • Download BrowZine. Go to the App Store, Google Play, or Kindle/Amazon store and search for BrowZine.
  • Install BrowZine. Make sure you have the most up-to-date version.

17th and 18th Century Burney Collection Newspapers provides rare and often unique content for scholarly research into a wide range of political, educational, economic or journalistic study. The original Burney volumes are now in fragile condition and have been restricted from ordinary reading room use. Until now, the only access to this unprecedented collection has been through microfilm. This digital collection, made possible by a partnership with the British Library, puts these early newspapers into the hands of scholars and researchers and is an invaluable research tool for all disciplines.

Access to digitised copies of archives held in Britain, with a detailed finding aid for each archive held. Collections held are the Parliamentary Labour Party papers, covering the late 20th Century, and reports of the BBC Listener Research Department, government publications, the industrial revolution, and records of Britain's relationship with the Americas, Asia and Africa.

Communist Party of Great Britain Archives

Access to digitised copies of Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) archives. For the period from the 1940s, records of the party's central leading bodies have been meticulously preserved and include notes taken at meetings by leading party officials. In addition there are extensive records of central departments like the industrial department, which dealt with the trade union activities which were the most visible and controversial sign of the party's influence, and the international department, which maintained links with communist parties overseas.

SpringerMaterials

SpringerMaterials is a searchable database that covers the physical and chemical properties in Materials Science. It encompasses all volumes of Landolt-Börnstein New Series, the largest and most respected compilation of data in physics and chemistry founded in 1883 which spans from particles, atoms and nuclei to multi-phase systems. The building blocks of SpringerMaterials include Landolt-Börnstein Database, Linus Pauling Files, a subset of the Dortmund Database of Software and Separation Technology, Absorption database, Polymer Thermodynamics database, and Chemical Safety Documents. It provides complete bibliographic data, along with links to the original content. SpringerMaterials also includes integrated links to SPRESIweb, a reactions and synthetic chemistry database which contain content from more than 1,350 leading journals by the Russian Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of the Academy of Sciences (VINITI).

SPRESI is also being trialled in this process.

Combining the key printed sources for English, Irish, Scottish and Colonial history with original manuscripts and the latest web technologies, MEMSO has become an indispensable and comprehensive online research database for universities, researchers and libraries around the world.

The Late Qing Dynasty full-text database (1833-1911)

This searchable database covers around 280,000 pieces of historical documents from 302 periodicals published during 1833~1911. The extensive collection has covered almost all the periodicals published during such critical periods later known as the Opium Wars, Westernizations Movement, Reform Movement of 1898 and Revolution of 1911. It contains the Women's Periodicals that advocated women's liberation and mental enlightenment, the Four Major Late Qing Dynasty Novel Journals as emerged during the great flourishing period of novels of the late Qing Dynasty, the Vernacular Chinese Periodicals founded to explore the people's mind and spread new knowledge, and the Science and Technology Periodicals which introduced new technologies and spread scientific knowledge. The search terms of the database include title,author,periodical,etc and content can be downloaded in pdf format.

This searchable database covers around 10,000,000 pieces of writing in over 25,000 different kinds of periodicals published between 1911 and 1949. As an important part of the historical archive, this database has significant academic and historical values. It not only helps reproduce the unique historical features of the ROC (1911~1949) and restore the historical memory, but also enriches the digital resources of periodicals so as to facilitate users to conduct academic research on the history of the ROC (1911~1949). The search terms of the database include title, author, periodical, etc and content can be downloaded in pdf format.

On Demand Media

On Demand Media is a multiple media archive in Australia which provides access to Australian media content from television, radio, press, and newspapers. It provides streaming content on News & Current Affairs and documentaries from television and radio dated back to September 2012. The TV coverage includes local news daily from Channels Nine, Seven and Ten News programs in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. The ABIX module provides access to newspaper summaries which covers content from the Australian Financial Review, the Australian, the Age, the Sydney Morning Herald and the West Australian. Full PDF clips for individual stories from print media are also available. All contents are searchable by keyword, subjects, people, organisation and date or program title.

Thieme and the University Health Network of Toronto have joined forces to create Medlantis, an online tool that brings lectures from the classroom and content from the library to your desktop. Education and Learning Visual Intelligence System (ELVIS) contains a range of national dataset collections including perinatal characteristics data set, the Australian Early Development Index (AEDI), school enrolments and the teaching workforce, childhood mortality, juvenile justice, population demographics and education levels, and further education and training. Pre-defined dashboards and reports are available for browsing. The built-in OLAP tool enables users to create tables, graphs and maps for undertaking data analysis.

Wanfang Data is an online platform providing access to the China Online Journal Database (COJ), the China Dissertations Database (CDDB), and the China Academic Conference Proceedings Database (CACP). The COJ is a database featuring core journals in business, economics, arts, humanities, law, politics and the social sciences. It's collection of Chinese university journals provides main research sources in the humanities and social sciences in China. The CDDB provides a collection of about 1.7 million dissertations in full text, either of master or doctoral degree endowed by most major universities and research institutes in China. The CACP provides academic papers from about 13,000 academic conferences held in China.

Siku Quanshu - the "Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature". These over 3400 works in the four traditional divisions of Chinese learning (classical, historical, philosophical, and literary), are a huge compilation of 36,000 volumes of Chinese texts ordered by the Qianlong emperor of the Qing dynasty in 1772, which took more than 10 years to complete. Primal Pictures' Anatomy & Physiology Online
Primal Pictures'  Anatomy & Physiology Online provides users with a complete and medically accurate 3D model of the human anatomy.  Derived from medical scan data, which has been interpreted and translated into three-dimensional images, the software allows users to engage with the 3D models and rotate, add, or remove anatomy. The anatomy visuals are accompanied by three-dimensional animations that demonstrate function, biomechanics and surgical procedures.  Nineteen modules are available; each contains narrated animations and illustrations, dissection slides, clinical case studies and a dedicated section on aging. Europa World Plus Trial
Macquarie University Library has a trial of the Europa World Plus database. This database is an online searchable combination of the Europa World Year Book and the nine Europa Regional Surveys of the World. Each issue of a Foundations and Trends series comprises one (or more) monograph on a particular topic, containing up to 100 pages, which surveys the literature and offers a state-of-the-art review of the topic, including a complete bibliography. Each issue is subjected to peer review. Authors revise and update their contributions on a regular basis.

PsycTESTS, PsycTHERAPY, and APA Handbook of Ethics in Psychology
 

The following APA databases are currently being trialled:

  • PsycTESTS - contains citations and reviews of psychological tests, along with the full text of some of the tests.
  • PsycTHERAPY - streaming psychotherapy demonstration videos.
  • APA Handbook of Ethics in Psychology - full text of the Handbook is available.

What does a Reference Universe do?
It's an index to reference works. Unlike the catalogue, Reference Universe searches the titles indexes within the reference works, making the contents more accessible. It searches both print and electronic titles.

Reference Universe provides a single search across nearly 50,000 specialized subject and scholarly compendia. The database contains more than 30 million citations to both print and e-versions from over 750 major and minor reference publishing houses, from 1980 onwards. Online coverage includes titles from CREDO, Annual Reviews, Gale's Virtual Reference Library, Oxford Reference Online, and select Springer, Sage, Blackwell and Wiley titles.

ScienceDirect eBook Collection Trial
The ScienceDirect ebook collection consists of books published by Elsevier and available on the ScienceDirect platform. 21 subject areas (Collections) are covered. These are: Agricultural & biological sciences; Biochemistry, genetics & molecular biology; Business management, hospitality & tourism; Chemical engineering; Chemistry; Computer science; Earth & planetary sciences; Energy; Engineering; Environmental science; Finance; Forensics; Immunology & microbiology; Material sciences; Mathematics; Media technology; Medicine & dentistry; Neuroscience; Pharmacology, toxicology & pharmaceutical science; Physics & astronomy; Psychology.

All books published by Elsevier Science & Technology in the years 1995-2011 are available, including major reference works and book series. As the books are on the ScienceDirect platform, they can be cross-searched with the journals.
