MQAAAstro Coffee and Journal Club

Introducing Astro Coffee and Journal Club, happening every Wednesday at 10.30am. These sessions take place in person and online. If you are on campus, you can find us in the Department of Physics and Astronomy Multi-Purpose Room (7 Wally's Walk, rm 2.300) Numbers are capped at 16 due to physical distancing guidelines and room capacity limits.

Astro Coffee is a friendly fortnightly meeting of students and faculty members. We gather to listen to someone talk about absolutely anything! We have people talking about their hobbies, past projects, life in and out of academia, history of astronomy, or even more relatable these days, how to be productive during uncertain times, such as those brought about by COVID-19.

We hope you can join us for Astro Coffee:

Astro Journal Club is a fortnightly meeting between postgraduate students, postdocs and professors in which we discuss a recent work published in a peer-reviewed astrophysical journal. This presents a great opportunity for PhD students to improve reading and communication skills, and for academic staff to help fill in any possible gaps in our knowledge about topics outside our area of expertise. Every session, a recent paper is circulated and then presented, with main results being highlighted and discussed. Time is also given for attendees to ask questions.

We hope you can join us for Astro Journal Club: https://macquarie.zoom.us/j/7709175475

Association for Astronomy

The Macquarie University Association for Astronomy (AfA) was established in 1988 by Dr. Alan Vaughan to promote astronomy outreach to the public, enabling various parts of the astronomical community to interact, and encouraging teaching and research in astronomy and astrophysics at Macquarie University.

Stay up to date with their news and events by visiting their Facebook page. You can also follow the AfA on Twitter and Instagram.
