Once you have completed your studies, whether with a degree or diploma, you automatically become a valued member of the alumni community at Macquarie. 2. Networking events do work! As recent graduates, we may think that networking events are overwhelming and not worth attending. However, this couldn’t be further from the reality. Networking events are typically characterized by a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, where you can easily strike up conversations with like-minded individuals. If you are a recent graduate and under 35, I highly recommend joining this group. The YAAB helps young alumni get started in the workforce and create a welcoming community for new alumni. Follow their LinkedIn group and connect with your peers. 4. Creating a LinkedIn profile is key. Consider your LinkedIn profile as a virtual resume, providing an excellent opportunity to connect with individuals and highlight your career accomplishments. Macquarie University – ANU Alumni postgraduate support scheme

The Macquarie University - ANU alumni postgraduate support scheme assists both ANU and Macquarie University alumni to upskill or retrain to meet the challenges of our changing world.

Postgraduate Loyalty Scheme in Macquarie University

Macquarie graduates may be eligible for a 10% sponsorship of fees when deciding to continue their postgraduate study with Macquarie University. Learn more about the Postgraduate Loyalty Scheme. Macquarie University - ANU alumni postgraduate support scheme It is awarded to all eligible alumni of either university, whether domestic or international, to support their ongoing postgraduate studies at ANU commencing in 2023 and 2024. Macquarie University also offers a similar support scheme to ANU alumni, details can be found here. Whether seeking to advance your career in your current field or looking to reskill for an in-demand industry, you are now eligible for a 10 per cent tuition fee reduction on most postgraduate courses at ANU, if you enrol in your program in 2023 or 2024. Macquarie University alumni application process To access this offer, please submit the Macquarie University alumni application form to have your eligibility automatically assessed when you apply to commence an eligible postgraduate coursework program at ANU in 2023 or 2024. If you are eligible, your tuition fees will be reduced by 10 per cent for the duration of your program (even if this is beyond 2024). Eligibility criteria ANU and Macquarie University alumni are eligible for postgraduate study support if they meet the following conditions.

Are a domestic or international applicant.
Have previously completed a degree at ANU or Macquarie University.
Commence a postgraduate coursework program* at ANU in 2023 or 2024 (exclusions apply*).
Are self-funded for fee purposes and are a full-fee paying student, i.e. are not the recipient of:
- a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) or other government supported place;
- a tuition fee sponsorship by a government or organisation; or
- any other form of tuition fee scholarship or fee waiver.
Are not receiving any other discount, e.g. employee or employee family member tuition discounts.
Are not receiving any scholarships during their postgraduate duration.

*Excludes offers for the following programs of study: cross-institutional study programs, Doctor of Medicine & Surgery and courses that are delivered in partnership with the Australian War College of the Australian Defence Force (Graduate Certificate of Military and Defence Studies, Graduate Diploma of Military and Defence Studies, Master of Military and Defence Studies, Master of Military and Defence Studies (Advanced)) or any other contracted partnerships. Additional courses may be nominated for exclusion by the relevant Associate Dean (Education) as course offerings change in the future. Automatic waiver Eligible ANU or Macquarie University alumni who enrol in an eligible ANU postgraduate coursework program and commence study in 2023 or 2024 will receive an automatic waiver of 10 per cent on their tuition fees for any postgraduate coursework units undertaken in that program of study. Note that Macquarie University alumni will need to first submit this application form to have their eligibility assessed. The 10 per cent reduction will be applied to the student's tuition fees after enrolment.

Announcing new alumni scholarship for Global MBA

Why they returned…

Ronald Tevin Medley, United States (MPolicyAppSocResearch 2018) I currently live in Seattle Washington which has shared headquarters with some of the largest tech companies in the world like Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon. After graduating from Macquarie University in 2017 I was inspired to become more involved in my community, so I founded a company that focuses on local and international program evaluation and social policy design. Although I learned many analytical skills through my Master of Policy and Applied Social Research program, I wanted to expand my knowledge of business and leadership- enter MGSM Global MBA. Coming from a US university for my Bachelor’s degree, I didn't know what to expect from MQ but I quickly learned that there is a high standard by which university staff and instructors work and a passion for students that I have never experienced at any other university I have attended. The choice of MQ for my Global MBA came naturally, especially since I met with the Vice-Chancellor and saw the vision for student success firsthand. Another reason why I chose to undertake the MGSM Global MBA is because I have a specific dream for myself in the world and I know that this program can assist me in finding a creative way to merge my passions and grow my business. I don't want to be a bystander as new innovations change the world around me, I want to be a part of that change and I know that MQ can help me do just that. Sylvestre Mang, France (MComm 2008) 11 years ago, I graduated at Macquarie University from a Master of Commerce with a major in Finance. Fast-forward all these years, I still remember life on campus, the quality of teaching and the life-long friendships I created. My connection with the university remained strong when I moved back home to France. I made sure I was always updated with changes and progress happening within the university, such as the new train station, the new library, innovations in medical research and most recently Macquarie Business School. I feel that Macquarie University is driven by a unique spirit of innovation in all fields of study. The university has succeeded to build a strong international reputation for both Australian and non-Australian students. My choice to return to my alma mater to continue my post graduate studies was an easy decision. At this point in my career I felt that I needed to be equipped with skills to be faced with the challenges of the future work force and build my own management style. More than fitness – Dana finds value for money and community at MQ Sport

In our five Q&As, Macquarie Alumna Danaluxmi (Dana) Pillay shares her thoughts on being an alumni member of the University’s Sport & Aquatic Centre. Dana graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology in 2006 and went on to attain her Bachelor of Business Administration in 2010. She became a member of the Macquarie University Sport & Aquatic Centre in January 2016 and is a frequent visitor to the gym, attending six days a week and participating in at least two group fitness classes each visit.

Q. What is your favourite activity to do in the centre?

A. Any of the many group fitness classes! I do Zumba, BodyBalance, BodyPump, BodyCombat and Barre. I love all the classes I attend but if I had to pick a favourite it would be Zumba, which I do five times a week. I LOVE Zumba! Q. What have you gotten out of your time as a member at MQ Sport? A. So many things including:

Making new friends and connections
A place to catch up with old friends and MQ colleagues
A safe space to destress in
Significant health improvements especially with my hypothyroidism and knee tracking disorder
Being part of a community that encourages and supports not only physical wellbeing but also social and emotional wellbeing which is so important.

Additionally, connection is also really important to me and one of the biggest things that keeps me coming back to MQ Sport and the group fitness classes is the interaction, encouragement and the genuine connection that the group fitness instructors build with the members. You don't find this connection in all gyms so a BIG THANK YOU to all the group fitness instructors I see on a regular basis for their amazing work. Q. What has been your greatest achievement here? A. Getting out of my comfort zone and trying new things. I had a really bad experience with BodyPump at another gym so was very adamant not to do it at Macquarie Sport. However, with the consistent encouragement of two group fitness instructors over six months they convinced me to try a BodyPump class. Two years on and I now do three BodyPump classes a week and love it. A special thanks to Anna B and Katie B for that encouragement! Q. How does this membership benefit you as an alumni? A. Value for money and access to new social networks. The alumni membership discount is well worth its value for what you get access to. Its also a great place to connect with other alumni and people I met and studied with during my time at university. Q. Do you recommend other alumni joining? Why? A. Absolutely. Not only is it a great way to keep connected to the University, it’s also a way to connect with other alumni and to network with other community members you would not normally interact with. You will be amazed at the variety of people you meet from all walks of life. You never know where those connections may lead. Also, given the stresses of everyday life it’s a fantastic place to come to for re-energising, to destress and take some time out for some self-care.
