The aim of the Profiles section of LEMA is to provide specific biographical information about individuals who had close personal relationships or contact with Lachlan and Elizabeth Campbell. It is an extension of the listings appearing in the

Biographical Register

One of the challenges in analyzing the journals and letters of the Macquaries is that many of the individuals mentioned in the text were often historically insignificant. They were minor characters whose respective roles in the events described may have been noteworthy, but not in the wider world of politics and decision-making. Some were linked by ties of kinship and family; others were friends, associates, or individuals who assisted the Macquaries or were reliant on their patronage.

The personal details and background of these individuals rarely appears in major biographical dictionaries or historical accounts. They are generally overlooked in area and specialist studies, though they are sometimes noted in various genealogical sources and published works.

However, in a variety of ways they were integral to the lives of the Macquaries. The following biographical studies are an attempt to redress this balance and to help document their stories. New entries will be added progressively.
