Queen’s Birthday honour for alumnus Stuart Clark

Stuart Clark, BA/LLB (1980)

Macquarie Law School alumnus Stuart Clark AM was recently recognised in the Queen’s Birthday honours when he was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his ‘significant service to the law, through senior roles with professional legal bodies to strategic reform, and to the rural fire service’.

Clark was among the first graduating cohort of law students from Macquarie, and has been an Adjunct Professor at Macquarie Law School since 2010.

He is also a Partner at Clayton Utz, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law and President-elect of the Law Council of Australia which he will lead from 2016. He has previously been the Chairperson of the Large Law Firm Group Limited where he was involved in the establishment of the National Legal Profession Reform, and the Director of the Legal Aid Commission of NSW. In his addition to his many contributions to the Macquarie Law School and MULS, his community service includes serving as Deputy Captain for the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Communication Brigade of the NSW Rural Fire Service.

“Mr Clark is among the University’s most distinguished alumni,” said Macquarie Law School Dean Professor Natalie Klein. “We highly value his ongoing connections with the Law School and have greatly appreciated his support of the School and its students.”

    Congratulations Stuart,

I remember you well……………………I started teaching at MULS in1975 so taught quite a few students in that first cohort.

It’s nice to think that what we thought of as a break from teaching “black letter law” has resulted in graduates with a strong committment to the public good!
