Macquarie University ranks 195 in the world

/ July 28, 2022
Macquarie University has solidified its place among the top 200 institutions worldwide, ranking 195th in the latest QS World University Rankings.

This is up from 200th in last year’s ranking. The University has steadily moved up over the past decade, rising 68 places since 2014.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) assesses more than 2400 institutions globally on research, teaching, reputation, employability and international outlook, and this year published the standings of the top 1422 universities worldwide.

This year’s positive result for Macquarie University was largely driven by an increase in research impact – measured by the number of citations received by all published papers. Coupled with a 45 per cent increase in research output since 2015, the growth in citations is indicative of Macquarie’s high-quality and influential research across a broad range of disciplines.

Jonathan Wylie, Vice-President, Strategy, Planning and Performance, says it is pleasing to see Macquarie University’s strategic focus on research and teaching is being recognised in the latest international rankings.

“University rankings are one way we can measure the impact of our work, while we continue to accelerate investment in our research strengths and deliver exceptional quality in our courses, teaching and student engagement.”

Today’s rankings are the 19th edition of the QS World University Rankings. Earlier this year the QS 2022 Subject Rankings placed 16 of Macquarie University’s subjects in the top 150 globally.
