Macquarie University Art Gallery launches its 2016 program

/ February 29, 2016

Each year Macquarie University hosts a unique array of exhibitions that are renowned for pleasing both art critics and visitors. In 2016 the Macquarie University Art Gallery will be hosting sought-after exhibitions touring Australia as well as resident exhibitions.

“Each exhibition not only captures an inspired premise, but also explores the unique possibilities that are only available with an enthusiastic academic community that is close at hand,” explains Leonard Janiszewski, a curator at the Macquarie University Art Gallery.

This year the Gallery is extending its space throughout the University, offering dedicated tours on Fridays for Macquarie alumni and members of the public to discover the exhibitions held across campus. A range of art, creative writing, and calligraphy workshops will also be open to alumni and the public throughout the year.

“In addition to hosting an array of enlightening exhibitions for visitors, we also want to share the vibrant narrative that goes along with the spaces in which the displays are being held,” adds Rhonda Davis, Senior Curator at the Macquarie University Art Gallery.

“Allowing Macquarie alumni and visitors to visit different areas of the campus bestows individual exhibitions with an exceptional sense of place as well as purpose,” she says.

There will also be an art lecture series on offer, where Macquarie’s own resident curators will explore the works of three artists, Marea Gazzard, Leonard French, and Grace Cossington Smith, whose pieces are currently in the University’s own art collection.

“The lecture series will offer a deeper insight into the inspirations and meaning behind the works of each of these artists, exploring both the artist’s own creative stimulus and how their creations have been received,” Ms Davis explained

Details of upcoming events and exhibitions can be found on the Art Gallery website.
