Announcing the Web Transformation Project

This project is one of the initiatives identified by the Executive Group, in response to the strategic vision outlined in Our University: A Framing of Futures strategic plan.

The primary objective of this project is to significantly enhance the user experience of Macquarie University’s digital presence for our key audiences within the following identified areas:

  • Public website
  • Staff intranet
  • Student intranet

Over the coming months this site will be updated with relevant information about the Web Transformation project that Macquarie University is set to commence.

Process to date

The University has followed the following process to validate the need for this project and to determine the nature and size of the effort required.

October 2013 Stamford Interactive was engaged by Macquarie University to scope the broad needs for a major web transformation project in order that an indicative budget and Request For Tender (RFT) could be developed
March 2014 Stamford interactive delivered the Web Project Scoping Report. The research includes a market review, a heuristic and analytics review of the current mq.edu.au website and a review of previous research and work relevant to the project. A preliminary consultation of 34 stakeholders was conducted to produce the findings of this document.
March 2014 The Executive Group endorsed the findings of the Web Project Scoping Report and the proposed way forward to redesign the University’s website.
March 2014 The Budget Review Committee agreed that a vendor selection process could commence and recommended the report and anticipated costs of the project be tabled for final endorsement by the Finance and Facilities Committee of the Council.
May 2014 An RFT was listed on Tenderlink to begin the process of vendor selection.
May 2014 The Finance and Facilities Committee of the Council approved the funding for the project.

The shape of this project

Stamford Interactive’s report recommends that in order to truly meet the needs of our key audiences, a successful web transformation for Macquarie University should address not only the aesthetic design, content and technology components but also Macquarie’s digital governance, culture and communications.

We will be looking to the successful vendor to work in a consultative manner across the University community to design the ultimate solution for this project. The project will seek the input of many stakeholders, user groups and our key audiences in the development of the proposed solution.

We invite you to stay in contact with the progress of this project and to participate in the opportunities that will be available to provide input and feedback via a range of channels over the coming months.
