Excellence in External Research Partnership and Commercialisation
This category rewards outstanding performance in research partnerships between Macquarie University and external groups including schools, community groups, industry, government (local, state or Commonwealth), NGOs, and international organisations and includes external partnership involving commercialisation of intellectual property derived from research by University staff and students.
Commercialisation is interpreted in a broad sense and might include start-up companies, licensing, contract or other forms of translation of research outputs to end-user organisations and communities.
The partnership must be based on research that enhances the University's teaching and research programs and provides demonstrable returns to partner organisations. (Note: partnership with other higher education institutions are not eligible, unless a partnership with an external group, industry, community, etc. is the main focus of the activity).
Eligibility
This category is open to all current and former members of staff (including adjunct and emeritus staff provided work has been conducted primarily at Macquarie University, and may include students as part of the Macquarie team). The partnership must include a partner external to the university. Other higher education institutions are not eligible.
The research partnership can be in any field and must have occurred at Macquarie University in the past three years, though it may be based on research carried out in the past ten (10 years).Judging criteria
Applications will be judged on the following criteria:
- Creative Breakthrough
Evidence that the research partnership and outcomes are based on a novel idea or concept or a novel application of an existing idea or concept. (i.e. research based), leading to development of new products. Processes, procedures or policies. - Implementation and Impact
- The applicants must be able to identify where the innovative partnership has delivered a significant beneficial outcome to the partner and the wider community. This must be demonstrated through an explanation of the benefits supported by evidence.
- Alignment with Macquarie University strategic goals
The applicant must demonstrate that the external research partnership (including commercialisation) is aligned with the strategic goals of the University.

- This category is competitive in nature and applicants are requested to submit short proposals to the judging panel using the online application form.
