ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award

Aim The objectives of the DECRA scheme are to:
  • support excellent basic and applied research by early career researchers
  • advance promising early career researchers and promote enhanced opportunities for diverse career pathways
  • enable research and research training in high quality and supportive environments
  • expand Australia's knowledge base and research capability
  • enhance the scale and focus of research in the Australian Covernment's Science and Research Priorities

A DECRA recipient may be awarded ARC funding of up to $142,372 per year of funding. The per annum salary contribution from the ARC is fixed at $102,372 (2018$), including 30% on-costs, and up to a maximum of $40,000 project costs. Salary and/or project costs will not be awarded separately.

Funding for a 2020 DECRA Project will commence effective 1 January 2020, unless other arrangements are approved by the ARC.

Macquarie University EOI open: Tuesday 10 July 2018
Release of ARC Grant Guidelines: Thursday 20 September 2018
ARC opening date in RMS: Monday 15 October 2018
Macquarie University EOI deadline: 5 pm (AEST) Wednesday 24 October 2018
Macquarie University submission date: Wednesday 6 February 2019 - All complete applications and requests not to assess must be submitted internally by this date. Consult your Faculty Research Office for specific submission instructions.
Research Services submission to ARC: Wednesday 13 March 2019
Rejoinder period: Thursday 20 June to Thursday 4 July 2019
Outcomes expected: Fourth Quarter 2019

DECRA workshop schedule for funding commencing in 2020. Workshops will be delivered for both the science disciplines and the arts and social science disciplines to provide highly-relevant advice to researchers. Workshops will also be attended by ARC College of Expert members as well as ARC grant recipients to provide attendees with insight from various perspectives. All researchers are welcome to attend.
