Excellence in Research in Sustainability
This award recognises the creation and application of sustainability outcomes, which may include the discovery of new knowledge, products or services. The research should take the form of a significant and novel sustainability advantage which has the potential to deliver major benefits to the University or the Australian and international communities in the fields of education, the environment, health, industry, technology or commercial enterprise.
The research could be, but is not limited to:
- water and water efficiency
- biodiversity conservation
- waste reduction
- social corporate responsibilities and reporting
It may also show financial savings as an outcome.
Eligibility
All members of staff (including adjunct and emeritus staff provided work has been conducted primarily at Macquarie University) can enter this category.
The research must have been developed at Macquarie University in the past three years. Research conducted before 27 May 2008 will not be considered.
Research must be based on developed or planned intellectual property, such as patents, copyright, circuit designs, plants breeders and trademarks etc.
Judging criteria
A panel of judges will choose a winner based on:
- Creative breakthrough
Evidence that the innovative research is based on a novel idea or concept or a novel application of an existing idea or concept. - Implementation and Impact
The research must have a major impact and/or benefit on the community. This must be explained and supported with evidence. - Alignment with Macquarie University strategic goals
The applicant must demonstrate that the research is aligned with the strategic goals of the University.

Application process
- This category is competitive in nature and applicants are requested to submit short proposals to the judging panel using the online application form.
