Get yourself some stress relief this silly season

School concerts. Presentation nights. End-of-year parties. Holiday planning. Christmas shopping…. If your November and December to-do list is making you feel overwhelmed, you’re not alone.

The increased social and familial pressures around ‘silly season’ can create stress and anxiety, and make it even harder than usual to find time for your physical and mental health.

But while it might feel like the worst time to be adding more things to your calendar, there’s never been a more important time to pencil in some time in your work week for exercise.

The Sport and Aquatic Centre is supporting Macquarie staff to stay active in November and December, so we can reduce our stress, sleep better and boost our overall mood.

The Centre is offering staff a 10-visit pass for $90 or 5 visits for $50, making it easier for busy staff who can’t commit to regular gym visits at this time of year.

Almost 1000 staff attended the Centre’s lunchtime exercise classes during Wellbeing Month, with many reporting immediate positive impacts on their wellbeing, and remarking on how the Centre’s lunchtime classes made it easy to fit exercise into their work day.

Being able to attend lunchtime classes made exercise so much more accessible.  The variety of classes and times gave me flexibility and meant taking care of myself could be more of a priority.”
Trish Lawson
EA to Executive Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering

“The classes revived my motivation to get fit – I found them beneficial for my overall wellbeing.”
Hart Widyaharsana
Management Accountant, Campus Life

“I thoroughly enjoyed the class; it was a great opportunity to take a break from work and re-energise and re-focus through gentle stretching and mediation. I need a little of this every day.”
Beth Whitney
Lead Consultant, Organisation Development, Human Resources
