ARC Linkage Projects

ARC Linkage Projects

Status Open (Continuous)

The objectives of the ARC Linkage Projects scheme are to:

  • support the initiation and/or development of long-term strategic research alliances between higher education organisations and industry and other research end-users, in order to apply advanced knowledge to problems to provide opportunities to achieve national economic, commercial, environmental, or social benefits;
  • provide opportunities for internationally competitive research projects to be conducted in collaboration with organisations outside the higher education sector;
  • encourage growth of a national pool of world-class researchers to meet the needs of the broader Australian innovation system; and
  • build the scale and focus of research in the Australian Government’s Science and Research Priorities.

The minimum level of funding provided by the ARC under Linkage Projects is $50,000 per year of funding and the maximum is $300,000 per year of funding per Project, for each year of the Project.  A Project may be applied for and awarded funding for a minimum of two to a maximum of five consecutive years.

Partner Organisations (combined) are expected to provide funding, cash and in-kind, to at least match the amount requested from the ARC. The combined Partner Organisation cash contribution must be at least 25% of the ARC request. Some exemptions apply.

Faculty Processes

The Faculties have their own approval and review processes for grants under this scheme. They may also have deadlines for submission of draft applications that are earlier than the Research Services deadlines. Please ensure that you contact your Faculty, as early as possible, for information on process and deadlines. Faculty contacts:

Key Dates

From 1 September 2018, Macquarie University will enforce 3 internal deadlines each year for the continuous ARC Linkage Projects scheme. This new process is being implemented as a strategy to increase the number and quality of submissions from the university in this scheme.

Submissions for this scheme will not be accepted at other times of the year.

In addition, for researchers to be eligible to request MQ financial contributions (e.g. MQRES), the strategic review deadline must be met. To meet the strategic review deadline, a complete draft of the whole Linkage Project application must be uploaded to RMS.
