ARC Linkage Projects

ARC Linkage Projects

Status Open (Continuous)

The objectives of the ARC Linkage Projects scheme are to:

  • support the initiation and/or development of long-term strategic research alliances between higher education organisations and industry and other research end-users, in order to apply advanced knowledge to problems to provide opportunities to achieve national economic, commercial, environmental, or social benefits;
  • provide opportunities for internationally competitive research projects to be conducted in collaboration with organisations outside the higher education sector;
  • encourage growth of a national pool of world-class researchers to meet the needs of the broader Australian innovation system; and
  • build the scale and focus of research in the Australian Government’s Science and Research Priorities.

The minimum level of funding provided by the ARC under Linkage Projects is $50,000 per year of funding and the maximum is $300,000 per year of funding per Project, for each year of the Project.  A Project may be applied for and awarded funding for a minimum of two to a maximum of five consecutive years.

Partner Organisations (combined) are expected to provide funding, cash and in-kind, to at least match the amount requested from the ARC. The combined Partner Organisation cash contribution must be at least 25% of the ARC request. Some exemptions apply.

Faculty Processes

The Faculties have their own approval and review processes for grants under this scheme. They may also have deadlines for submission of draft applications that are earlier than the Research Services deadlines. Please ensure that you contact your Faculty, as early as possible, for information on process and deadlines. Faculty contacts:

Key Dates

Changes to Eligibility for DVCR Co-Funding

Eligibility for the DVCR Co-Funding Scheme is now contingent upon on-time submission of grant applications by the Macquarie University submission date. Many applications for external funding require cash and in-kind contributions from the host institution in order to be considered for funding. In most cases, researchers request cash contributions, such as project support funds, funding for research associates, scholarships and major equipment, from the DVCR via the DVCR Co-Funding Scheme  to support their external funding applications. To be eligible to request this DVCR Co-Funding, grant applications must be submitted internally, via Pure, by the Macquarie University submission date.

  • Applications must be submitted to the Research Services Pre Award team by the MQ submission date.
  • View further information on deadlines, processes and FAQs.
  • Applications that do not have a Pure record and/or do not have all the appropriate approvals in Pure (Head of Department [HoD] and Associate Dean Research [ADR]) will not be submitted to the external funding body.

For funding applied for in 2020:

There will be three assessment rounds for applications for Linkage Projects for funding applied for in 2020. Draft applications will carry over in RMS between rounds (e.g. a draft application started during assessment Round 1 can be submitted in assessment Round 2 or Round 3 without the need to restart the application).
