Commissioned Officers of the 73rd Regiment Who Served in Ceylon 1814-1821

A provisional list of all the officers of the 73rd Regiment who performed military duties in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) during the years 1814-1821. Also included are those members of the 1/73rd who, in addition, may have served in New South Wales or Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in the period 1809-1814.

Died: 25 May 1848, in Sydney (Australia).

Additional: Born 11 September 1766 at Riverston [or Riverstown], County Kerry, Ireland. Son of Charles Philip O'Connell and Alicia Connell, daughter of Maurice Connell of Termons[?]. Married 8 May 1810 Mary nee Bligh, (widow of Lt John Putland) daughter of William Bligh, deposed Governor of NSW (1806-1808) and Captain of H.M. ship Bounty at time of famous mutiny at Tahiti in April 1789. O'Connell was knighted in 1834 and returned with his wife to Sydney in the Fairlie in December 1838 having been appointed to command the forces in NSW.
