Access changes to Macquarie Drive and Eastern Road

Following the recent relocation of vehicular traffic to University Avenue, work continues to create a safer, pedestrian-friendly and more pleasant environment in the campus core area.

Macquarie Drive, Central Avenue and Eastern Road will become ‘shared zones’ with restricted access. Boom gates are currently being installed, and from mid-August, access to the ‘shared zones’ will be restricted to:

  • emergency vehicles
  • vehicles displaying Disability Permits (issued by University or RMS)
  • service vehicles with University-issued permits
  • utility authority vehicles
  • waste collection vehicles, and
  • delivery vehicles (food and beverage, courier services etc).

Approved users will be able to operate the boom gates via their campus card or call button (audio-video link) to the Security Office. The ‘shared zones’ will be signed and line marked accordingly with a posted speed limit of 10km/hr.

Drop-off and pick-up will not be permitted in the ‘shared zones’. A special zone for this purpose, and for taxis, has been created at the rear of the Security Office (C1A) and can be accessed from the University Avenue roundabout in front of the Cochlear Building.
