Our region in focus

Professor James Dalziel, Director of our E-Learning Centre Of Excellence (MELCOE), co-hosted the 9th International LAMS Learning and Design Conference at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

“Macquarie has been a supporter of the open source LAMS software for the past ten years,” said James. “It is currently used by thousands of educators in more than 80 countries, and translated into 33 languages.”

The conference placed special focus on e-learning in medical education, which included a presentation from the Lee Kong Chian Medical School about their revolutionary use of live technology in the classroom to support Team-Based Learning (TBL).

“TBL is a new approach to teaching complex subjects using individual self-testing and group-based learning in a technology rich classroom environment,” he said.

The workshop was a great success with agricultural and veterinary representatives from nine Pacific nations attending, said Jed. “It also included visits to Fijian pig farms to put our learning into practice and engage in hands-on animal welfare assessments.”
