Break new ground at TedxMacquarie

Designed to stimulate positive action through ideas and insights from  a range of unique perspectives, TEDx events engage and inspire audiences across the world.

TEDxMacquarieUniversity is back with the theme Breaking New Ground. Addressing this concept will be thought leaders Turia Pitt, Lucy Hughes Turnbull AO, and Vice-Chancellor Professor S. Bruce Dowton, who join a diverse selection of aspiring entrepreneurs, professionals, futurists, sustainable thinkers, and scientists.

Student-run and not-for-profit, this series of presentations allows speakers a maximum of 18 minutes to deliver ‘ideas worth spreading’ in their chosen field. The event will also feature a range of performance acts, and will be fully catered with a menu custom prepared by keynote speaker and Channel Nine TODAY Show nutritionist Dr Joanna McMillan.

Keynote speakers:

Turia Pitt, is a motivational speaker, engineer, published author, an ultra-marathon runner, and a burns survivor who was named Cosmopolitan’s ‘Woman of the Year’ for 2013. Reflecting on her own experiences, she will speak about body image through the topic of ‘Unmasking your Potential’.

Businesswoman, philanthropist, and former Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney, Lucy Hughes Turnbull AO, will draw from her longstanding interest in cities and technological and social innovation, to speak on ‘Designing Cities for Women.’

Other exciting speakers include entrepreneur Ben Moir, who will discuss technology and garment integration, Macquarie University’s PhD student in philosophy, Tereza Hendle, who will discuss ethics around gender selection, and 15 year-old tech start-up cofounders Cohen Bosworth and Arvin Bayat, who will demonstrate their latest invention: a lipstick-sized phone charger.
